Anchor Building (Climbing or Canyoneering)
The fundamental parts of rock climbing, canyoneering and other roped activities are built upon the anchor, a vital component that requires a deep understanding of its various types, construction, and evaluation. In this immersive course, students will engage in hands-on exercises with diverse materials and scenarios, developing their skills in anchor creation and assessment. Whether you're focused on rock climbing or canyoneering, this course can be tailored to meet your specific needs. For rock climbing anchors, we'll explore the fundamentals of bolting, including different types of bolts, appropriate types of bolts for given rock quality, and assessing rock quality. We'll also delve into the importance of equalization of cordage/webbing and the typical forces on systems in Kilonewtons. For canyoneering anchors, we'll cover a range of techniques, including sandtraps, deadman anchors, talon hooks, fiddle sticks, and human anchors. By the end of the course, you'll have a better understanding of how to design and use anchors in a variety of environments and scenarios.
